[GKS&K-GKS] Notice of Emergency Plan for the 2026 GKS-University Track

    A

Due to the recent situation in the Middle East, normal selection procedures (document authentication, original submission, etc.) are currently facing physical difficulties.

NIIED (National Institute for International Education) and POSTECH have decided on the following plan for the selection process to maintain continuity in the GKS selection process and minimize any disadvantages for applicants from the Middle East.

Please refer to the following :

O Countries eligible for the first round of screening for the General Track University Admissions Program:

    United Arab Emirates, Iran, Kuwait

    O Changes

    1) Document Submission Requirements: Priority review will be given to online scanned copies.

Therefore, please submit the following documents as individual PDF files according to the list number.

    • - Required Documents: Submit an online scanned copy of the original handwritten signature.
    • - Proof Documents: Submit scanned copies of the prepared documents, even without apostille or consular authentication.

    • - Submission of original documents (including consular authentication/apostille) will be deferred until flights resume.
      - However, the submission deadline will be relaxed to extend from immediately after the announcement of final acceptance (scheduled for the end of June) to before the university issues its standard admission certificate (mid-July).
    • - Even if you are accepted through the review process before the original documents (including consular authentication/apostille) are confirmed,
    • you will be granted "conditional acceptance" status. Final acceptance notification and entry permission will be granted after the originals are confirmed.

    2) Implementation of a deferred acceptance system in preparation for a prolonged period.

    • If entry is not possible during the entry period due to the continued deterioration of the Middle East situation,
Application for a 6-month deferral of admission (entry in March 2027) is possible through the recommending institution.

  • Q

[GKS&K-GKS] Do I have to be proficient in the Korean language?

    A

Korean Language Proficiency is not an essential requirement for application.

However, applicants who have minimum capacity in Korean can be preferred.

  • Q

[GKS&K-GKS] How can I get a document for “Proof of Instruction Language”?

    A

Applicants whose institution performs all of the lectures in English are qualified to substitute the English Proficiency Test with a document that verifies the institution’s instruction language.

If the applicant’s institution does not have such an official document,

he/she can submit other documents (e.g. transcript, enrollment certificate, etc.) with the institution’s original seal

and the following phrase: “It is hereby verified that the instruction language of (institution’s name) is English.”

  • Q

[GKS&K-GKS] Can other English Proficiency Tests (e.g. GRE) substitute the English Proficiency Tests listed previously?

    A

No other English Proficiency Tests can substitute the English Proficiency Tests listed previously.

[GKS&K-GKS] Is the Institutional Testing Program (ITP) hosted by institutions other than POSTECH acceptable?

ITP held by other institutions is not acceptable when applying to POSTECH’s graduate program. Only that hosted by POSTECH is valid.

  • Q

[GKS&K-GKS] What if I do not meet the required score for English proficiency?

    A

Since POSTECH’s language of instruction is mainly English, prospective students must reach an average level of English proficiency.

Therefore, all applicants are required to prove their English proficiency through an official test or either a document that proves the instruction language of applicants’ institution.
